The Marden House Centre is a place where many local groups meet for Bridge, Jazz, Lace-making, Twinning, Civic Society, Flower Arranging, Friends of the Earth, Meditation, Calne Choral Society and many other activities.
It’s a place where parties can be held, tutors can run courses, and people come for workshops, concerts, murder mystery events, and all kinds of celebrations in the Main Hall or Committee Room or, occasionally, the Mill Race.
Marden House was home to the Wharfinger who handled traffic on the Wilts and Berks Canal, which terminated here. When local people raised funds and obtained grants to renovate the building and convert it to a community and arts centre, Prince Charles gave his support by visiting in 1988 (see the plaque on the front of the building), and the centre was opened in 1990
Marden House may surprise you: visitors often find it has more charm and more possibilities than they imagined. Providing a high degree of seclusion, the Marden House Centre is suited to a wide variety of uses, from private parties, wedding celebrations, business meetings and exhibitions to public performances.
